We had a successful Parent Forum today with parents representing all four classes! As a starting point, our theme was behaviour and manners and Sarah Joskey gave a short presentation on the school's approach and how it links with our nurture principles. We looked at a fictitious case study and talked about the good manners initiative. We also discussed school meals and Forest school.

Year 6 Visit Dorset for Adventure!

Year 6 had a fantastic camp at Osmington Bay in Dorset. All week, the children participated in a wide range of activities, from abseiling to zip lining. Each activity testing their team-building, creative skills, mental and physical stamina, and sheer nerve. Every child, without exception, threw themselves into each challenge with gusto and, not only was it wonderful to witness their confidence and self-belief growing throughout the week, but to watch existing bonds of friendship strengthening and new ones forming.

STEM DAY 2025

Today, the school was buzzing with excitement! Prof Ed launched our STEM day with an assembly about forces. He explained to the children that forces are interactions - push or pull - that can cause an object to accelerate, change direction or shape. Poor Mrs Balicki was rather nervous demonstrating how gravity works knowing Prof Ed's proclivity for pranks. He had all the children laughing when illustrating how elasticity works by setting off a rocket balloon that whizzed around the room. We then 'lifted' off to Space and travelled to Mars where Prof Ed asked the children if they would prefer to walk or ride around the Red Planet. Naturally the child were eager to ride and thus their challenge was set: 'Design, build and decorate a buggy in teams to move over rocky terrain using the force of elasticity.' The children, in their Houses, worked in small groups of mixed ages to build their Mars Rover. This took most of the day and it was great to see the older children working and supportin

On Tuesday, Somerset Cricket Foundation and WPA Insurance visited Burrington to deliver a cricket kit bag full of equipment worth over £300. To make the event extra special Oak Class received a coaching session, using the new equipment, delivered by two Somerset cricket players: Jake Ball, who has also played 22 games for England and Kasey Aldridge, who has also played for England U19s. How exciting! Not just for the children! We had the opportunity to ask questions and the players signed autographs.

Maple visits St Monica's

The residents of St Monica's were treated to a very special WW2 music, dance and poetry performance today. There was not a dry eye in the audience, and it was great to see all the senior citizens singing and clapping along to the songs. After the show, one of the residents requested Lambeth Walk again and this time everyone got up and danced. It was a very special moment. After receiving lots of compliments from residents about how brilliant the show was and how well behaved the children had been, it was time for lunch. For some children, this was a wonderful opportunity for inter-generational conversation. What a wonderful way to spread some Christmas Joy!

This week we are celebrating well-being week with a range of themes including dog safety and water safety, with visitors to match from the RNLI and the Dog Trust. We will also be exploring what we can all do to support our mental and physical health. Of course, well-being is not confined to one week of the year but it is great to focus our energies together to remind us all how important it is to care for ourselves, each other and the wider world AND what a difference it can make!
