Every child, without exception, threw themselves into each challenge with gusto and, not only was it wonderful to witness their confidence and self-belief growing throughout the week, but to watch existing bonds of friendship strengthening and new ones forming.

  • Thursday 13 March 2025 STEM DAY 2025 Today, the school was buzzing with excitement! Prof Ed launched our STEM day with an assembly about forces. He explained to the children that forces are interactions - push or pull - that can cause an object to accelerate, change direction or shape. Poor Mrs Balicki was rather nervous demonstrating how gravity works knowing Prof Ed's proclivity for pranks. He had all the children laughing when illustrating how elasticity works by setting off a rocket balloon that whizzed around the room. We then 'lifted' off to Space and travelled to Mars where Prof Ed asked the children if they would prefer to walk or ride around the Red Planet. Naturally the child were eager to ride and thus their challenge was set: 'Design, build and decorate a buggy in teams to move over rocky terrain using the force of elasticity.' There was not a dry eye in the audience, and it was great to see all the senior citizens singing and clapping along to the songs. After the show, one of the residents requested Lambeth Walk again and this time everyone got up and danced. It was a very special moment. After receiving lots of compliments from residents about how brilliant the show was and how well behaved the children had been, it was time for lunch. For some children, this was a wonderful opportunity for inter-generational conversation. What a wonderful way to spread some Christmas Joy!
